Fushimi Inari-Taisha

The Shinto Shrine Fushimi Inari-Taisha, with its hundreds of red wooden gates snaking through a dense forest and up a steep hill, is at its best shortly after it’s been raining. The dripping leaves are at their darkest green, mist hangs over its ponds, and the climb makes everyone as wet and sweaty as if they had just entered a Turkish bath.
